SUBMISSION
GUIDELINES:
1. All kinds of presentation modes and mediums will
be considered. In the past
we’ve had people show and tell: how to build your own city composting
and worm ecology kit; a digital graffiti art performance; an interactive
computer DJ machine; a photography essay on Japanese Cutie Phenomenon;
a bike tour about Newtown Creek; a work-in-progress short story with illustrations;
a multimedia dance performance; a video about robots and illness; and
a homemade horror short—to name a few.
You may present:
1) A completed
performance, project, invention/ OR
2) A future project, a work-in-progress/OR
3) An examination or interpretation of visual and social culture (obviously
1&2 may blur into this category)
If you are giving a lecture or a demonstration, your presentation should
include interesting images or audio. Although priority will be given to
multimedia experiences, we are more interested in compelling content and
creating a unique learning experience for everyone.
2. Each
presenter will be given a 20-minute maximum slot including set-up and
project introduction. We recommend that you keep your content
to 15 minutes or less to insure that there will be time for Q&A.
However, you may decide whether you will allow for questions and
comments during your presentation or if Q&A happens after. You may
also choose to use the full 20-minutes and forfeit Q&A and save all
that for afterhour mingling. We also reserve the right to stop your performance
should you go over 20 minutes. You are responsible for rehearsing and
timing your presentation before you present at Show and Tell.
3. You should be open to constructive feedback and questions from
audience members.
* additional guidelines FOR MONKEYTOWN VENUE
below:
4. In submitting your application, you are
agreeing to present for two seatings: one starting
at 7:30pm; and the other starting at 10:30pm.
(However, that said, it's always possible to work something out
if you can only make one seating.) You must
be present for set-up and organization one hour
prior to the start of each showing.
5. EQUIPMENT and SET-UP: You
will have access to a projector, Apple 1 Ghz PowerPC G4 laptop. If you
need fancy equipment/set-up, we recommend that you transport your own
stuff to the event during set-up time. You
will be responsible for preparing and formatting your media content, which
you will bring on a DVD, portable computer, or Mac-compatible device the
night of your presentation.
6. Show and Tell is an on-going event!
In the case you are not selected for this round, there’s a good
chance you’ll be considered for the next one.
